It is really important you understand how chemicals, perfumes and cosmetics like body lotion can cloud the brilliance of gold vermeil and sterling silver. We therefore recommend you apply your perfumes and lotions well in advance (at least 30 minutes) before putting on your jewellery.
Similarly, all jewellery should be removed before swimming, bathing or showering to avoid chlorine or water damage that can dull and remove plating such as gold vermeil.
The gold vermeil we use to plate your jewellery is Fairmined, meaning it’s come from ethical mines, and we use a 2.5 micron overlay of 18ct gold on a base of 925 Sterling Silver. If your jewellery needs an extra sparkle you can clean gold vermeil jewellery however you must be VERY gentle in how you buff the metals with a soft, dry, 100% cotton or microfibre cloth.
Please make sure you NEVER use silver cloth or chemical cleaners on 18ct gold vermeil jewellery as it can strip the gold finish and diminish the overall aesthetic of your jewellery.
Gold vermeil jewellery will naturally tarnish over time, however, we use 2.5 microns as opposed to the 0.5 or 1 micron you’ll mostly see used within more mainstream jewellery as this can prolong the lifetime of your jewellery. This is why jewellery care is so important as you can protect your jewellery and ensure tarnishing is kept to an absolute minimum.
Sterling silver jewellery can be cleaned very easily with a silver cloth, however, please do be careful to ensure this cloth doesn’t come into contact with gold vermeil as this can remove the plating.
Finally, please note that taking proper care of your jewellery, making sure it’s kept in dry conditions and stored in airtight containers when not in use will prolong the life and appearance of your pieces.
